Coming on Sunday 30th October and 06th November a mini series on “Finding a Balance”.

We live our lives with seemingly increasing demands upon our time and energies.

We are called to be good citizens volunteering our time and joining the ‘Big Society’. We are called to be great parents, bringing up children that will become good citizens. We are called to be honest workers contributing to our society etc etc etc.

How do we meet these sometimes conflicting demands. How do we achieve ‘Balance’ in our lives.

The Bible has something to say about it.

Why not join us at 11.00am for a couple of weeks as we explore this topic.
Risca Salvation Army, 66a Commercial Street, Risca.

What a great evening we had with renowned Euphonium player Derick Kane, his son Stephen and Andrew Blyth on Saturday 8th October at Risca Salvation Army Hall. As well as some great playing the audience also enjoyed hearing about this years ISB120 event and the future of Army Brass banding. Former Risca Bandsmen, and friends, joined together to create a Band for the evening conducted by Andrew and Derick.

If you could ask God one question, what would it be?

From August 14th we will be exploring such questions, perhaps your question, in our morning family worship at 11am.

If you really exist why on earth don’t you prove it?
Is the Christian God and the Islamic Allah the same God?
Good people go to Heaven. Right?
Why should I trust what the Bible says?
Why not join us! And if you would like to submit a question then please do so via our contacts page.

We also know that the last thing you want in Church is to be worrying about what your children are doing, so half-way through the meeting they will be leaving for their own fun activities, and just after 12.00, whilst they are finishing off what they are doing, you will be able to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea.

Its not just the time thats changing though. We want you to know that the Bible and its message is relevant to 21st century life so we will be working hard to make sure we answer your questions and address your needs. Our worship is relaxed and informal. We blend songs both ancient and modern and use visual impact whenever that will help. I’m sure you would enjoy it, so come and check us out.

Prior to the morning worship the hall will be open at 10.00am for those who wish to start their day with prayer and meditation.

Whey hey it’s Easter, the first chance for a break and even the chance of some sun. What could be better? There’s something fresh about Easter time, something new, the official signal that spring is here and summer is on its way and all topped off with a Bank Holiday.

The clocks this year at least, have already gone forward and the days are already longer but Easter of course isn’t a fixed day in the diary. At least not in terms of a specific date, it isn’t. The Moon and where it happens to be at a particular time of the year govern the location of this particular festival in the calendar. Its timing proves problematic for some. Particularly those who would like to fix it to a set date to make the most of the business opportunities a long weekend offers them. But for those of us who celebrate the real meaning of Easter it helps us remember that there some things that are beyond our control. That there are some things we can’t fix or pin down for our own convenience.

The first Easter followed the celebration of the Passover, the Jewish Festival that remembered the time when God intervened and set his people free from slavery in Egypt. It was the reason why so many people were rammed into Jerusalem. It was a chance to relive that moment and boost the national identity, when yet again the people were under occupation from a foreign army. It was a chance for a national time-out and a morale boost and of course a bit of a knees-up.

Despite the fact that the Roman authorities were skeptical and probably more than a bit worried about this national celebration and holy-day, they ran with it, even sponsored some of it’s highlights, such as the custom of freeing a prisoner. It was a gesture of goodwill from the occupying power towards the locals and their strange customs and practices.

It was in the middle of this first century equivalent of our bank holiday that God chose to fulfill for all people and for all time the promise implicit in the Passover. The truth is we will never appreciate the full significance of Easter unless we see it in the context of the escape from captivity and into freedom, more importantly from captivity into a freedom that comes at a price.

This Easter why not re-read the story of the Passover in Exodus 12 and at the same time read again the account of Holy Week in the gospels?
